A cloudy start to Thursday morning is just the beginning of some gloomy and stormy weather for the next 48 hours in southeastern Manitoba.

CHVN's weather expert, C-MOS accredited weathercaster Chris Sumner, tells us that an Alberta Clipper is bearing down on the south of Manitoba.

"The southwest corner of the province is still expected to get some rain and snow, but not to the same extent of areas further east.

"Showers and rain will develop early this afternoon across much of southern Manitoba, with the highest amounts expected in the Red River Vally and southeastern Manitoba," Sumner says that there could be as much as 15mm of rain.

Overnight that rain will likely change to snow, and the wind will pick up. That could cause problems for visibility on the highways, and continue into Friday. "It's definitely something to keep in mind."

"Conditions will continue to not be great Friday, with periods of snow throughout the day, and gusty northwest winds of 50-70 km/h. And we're looking at potentially 2-5cm of snow."

The good news is the system won't last long, with Sumner expecting it to push out of the province by Friday evening or early Saturday morning, "meaning a return to sunshine for the start of the weekend and highs in the +1 to +3 range."

We will continue to monitor the path of the storm and update on any changes.
