The Winnipeg Goldeyes baseball team is celebrating more than a weekend victory this morning after a blown bus tire caused a few scary moments over the weekend.

The Goldeyes were travelling from Fargo, North Dakota, to Sioux Fall, South Dakota on Friday when the collision happened.

The Goldeyes bus blew a tire and caused the vehicle to hit the guard rails on the right-hand shoulder of the highway.

Kash Beauchamp, the team’s batting coach, tells CTV News, "All the guys were asleep in the back, and I just screamed about three times, hold on, hold on, hold on.

"You heard the whole front right tire of the bus explode. I mean, it just blew out, and the bus almost got out of control."

Nobody was injured in the accident, and another bus picked up the team to carry them the rest of the way to Sioux Falls.

In fact, the Goldeyes still played that night. They lost to the Sioux Falls Canaries, despite a late comeback, 8-6. They would bounce back Sunday evening, though, downing the Canaries, 8-2.

The Goldeyes are only playing on the road in a shortened American Association season due to COVID-19. The team is currently 5-4, in third place.
