Alex Trebek says he's "on the mend" and ready for a new season of Jeopardy!

The 79-year-old Trebek announced he has pancreatic cancer in March of 2019. He asked for prayers at the time and vowed to beat the illness, despite its low survival rate.

On Thursday the television show posted a video online of Trebek saying he's excited for a new season, which will begin airing in September. New episodes actually begain taping in July.

"I've gone through a lot of chemotherapy and thankfully that is now over," Trebek says. "I'm on the mend and that's all I can hope for right now."

The show is going into its 36th season with the Canadian host.

Despite the illness, Trebek hasn't lost his humour. Asked who he would want to play him in a biographical film he deadpanned "Betty White" as his answer.
