A group of teens is hoping to help spread a bit of joy to seniors who are isolated from family and friends in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Joy4All project launched on April 10. It's run by students in Calgary who are part of a Recreational Leadership course.

The students say they "want to make our community a safer and better place," on the group's website.

"Our goal is to keep everyone engaged and happy during these tough times, especially the people who are helping the cause by self-isolating. We thank them for making this sacrifice for us and want to help them get through this time by giving them happiness and a sense of belonging."

People who call the toll-free number, 1-877-JOY-4ALL, can listen to a regularly updated selection of jokes, stories, and educational messages.

Young people are also encouraged to participate by submitting their own content. "We are looking for stories, jokes, kind messages, letters, poetry, and more!" Submissions are encouraged to use supportive language, and recorded submissions should be one to five minutes in length.

Seniors in Alberta have been hit hard by COVID-19, with 17 people from a single nursing home in Calgary dying as of last week.
