Boxes filled with tobacco products are lining an RCMP evidence room after a traffic stop uncovered the unregistered product.
In the RM of Whitehead, located approximately 90 kilometres east of the Saskatchewan border, RCMP officers conducted a traffic stop that led them to find large quantities of an unstamped product.
RCMP with the Brandon detachment stopped the vehicle at approximately 4 p.m. on Thursday afternoon on Highway 1.
Searching the vehicle of a 23-year-old man and 44-year-old woman, both from Grande Prairie, officers found almost two dozen boxes filled with unstamped tobacco products.
They are now facing charges including:
- Possession of Unstamped Tobacco under the Criminal Code,
- Possession of Unstamped Tobacco under the Excise Act 2001
- Possession of Unstamped Tobacco under the Tax Administration
- Miscellaneous Taxes Act
Both Albertans have been released from custody but will need to return to Manitoba. On April 8 they are set to appear in court in Brandon.
