They won't be in their new space for two months, but their new executive director is already excited about the future.

Beverly Burkard has only been at Agape Table for three weeks but is really excited about the future partnerships that could be possible in their new home, The Wave Church.

"(It's) everything I thought it was going to be," Burkard said about the job. "I am grateful and absolutely blessed to have this opportunity."

Their new location, which will be in the basement of The Wave Church on Furby Street, needs to be ready for July 1, but Burkard hopes they will actually be in before that. There are updates that need to happen first, including the kitchen which needs to be able to feed up to 500 people daily.

But the most exciting part of their location is the people around them, Burkard says. And it starts and ends with the church.

"If they hadn't provided this, we would not be able to continue our work," Burkard said thankfully. "Without them, we would be no more."

Daniel McIntyre was recently found to be the area with the highest concentration of impoverished individuals in Winnipeg. It is located just one block north. Burkard says they have already started creating partnerships with existing organizations in the area and are trying to work together to solve poverty.

"Two huge partnerships we're already bringing," Burkard said.

Another potential partner is located directly across the street. The University of Winnipeg's dormitories and science building are visible from the front door and Burkard says that could be an incredible gift.

"People such as the university students who are open-minded, forward-thinking, all-inclusive, non-judgemental, I couldn't ask for better neighbours."

Burkard says she is ready for this next step and excited to be in this type of work, something she has already been a part of for many years.
