The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) says that a young girl was grabbed while walking home from school yesterday.

WPS says the encounter took place at approximately 12:00 p.m., on November 9.

A 10-year-old girl was walking home from her middle school in the area of Alexander Avenue and Beacon Street when she was approached by an unknown male.

The man tried to convince the young girl that he knew her mom, and could help her get home.

"The girl told the male she didn't know him and kept walking," WPS says, "at which time the suspect grabbed the victim by the shoulder and pulled on her. The victim bit the suspect on the hand and he ran away."

Police say that they do not have a description available at this time. They are continuing to investigate.
