People living with, or caring for someone living with, diabetes are encouraged to share their stories with Diabetes Canada.

Today is World Diabetes Day.

Diabetes Canada's manager of community engagement for Diabetes Canada in Manitoba and Nunavut Kelly Lambkin says it's all about the awareness.

She says some monuments are being lit up blue to mark the occasion, and people were encouraged to wear blue today as well. As well, Diabetes Canada wants to hear from you, whether you live with the condition or know someone who does.

"Generally, there isn't anybody we've met that doesn't know somebody (affected by diabetes), so stand up for them today, share their stories on social media, we'd love to hear from them in the office here," says Diabetes Canada's manager of community engagement in Manitoba and Nunavut Kelly Lambkin.

Lambkin says there are currently more than 381,000 Manitobans living with diabetes or pre-diabetes, and it's estimated more than 54,000 Manitobans are living with diabetes and don't know it.

Lambkin says Canadians can learn their risk for developing Type 2 Diabetes at diabetestest.ca. Lambkin says, for each test completed, Sun Life Financial will donate $3 to the cause.
