A power outage in Garden City has left 795 people without power this afternoon.

A downed power line has caused an outage immediately east of McPhillips at Bannerman Ave and Atlantic Ave.

"We appreciate that every time this happens, it's a great inconvenience, not only to homeowners but also to businesses in the area," says Bruce Owen, media relations officer for Manitoba Hydro. "We're working to get this fixed as quickly as possible and we appreciate our customers' patience as we deal with it."

According to Owen, due to the nature of the damage, Hydro will be switching to other power lines to restore power to the area as quickly as possible.

"We can bring most customers up very shortly, however, there will be a number of customers without service in the vicinity of where the line and the damage have occurred."

The estimated time of restoration for the Garden City area is 3:30 p.m. this afternoon.
