UPDATE: The extreme cold warning has now expanded to include the city of Winnipeg.

Current extreme cold warnings are in red. This map will automatically update as watches and warnings change. (Environment Canada)James Colangelo from Environment Canada says a high pressure system in southern Saskatchewan has now pushed cold Arctic air into western Manitoba.

Portage la Prairie, and areas east including the City of Winnipeg, have escaped the warnings, but that might not last long.

"I can't say for certain right now, but we do have a system moving through southeastern Manitoba right now. That should push off throughout the day. But it should stay fairly cloudy overnight actually which could inhibit the extreme cold," Colangelo says.

"But, that high pressure system will eventually move in and should bring us very cold temperatures coming up."

It looks like the cold weather is still here for some time.

Colangelo says current models show unchanging weather patterns.

He does say it might not be quite as cold as we've seen in the past while, but definitely still cold even for a Manitoba winter.
