Tragic end to search for missing Norwegian hiker
The search for a missing Norwegian hiker has come to a close after his body was recovered Sunday morning. Gillam RCMP and Parks Canada, with help from community searchers from Fort Severn, were doing a ground search along the Hayes River when the pilot of a helicopter reported to the search parties that he believed he located the body of Steffen Skjottelvik a short distance away from where his jacket had been located on Friday afternoon. Officers and community searchers made their way to the area on foot and confirmed that the body recovered on shore was that of the missing 29-year-old Norwegian hiker. Skjottelvik's body was transported by helicopter to Gillam where it was then flown to Winnipeg. An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday morning.
