After months of hard work, Pickleball Club of Winnipeg open to public
The owner of the Pickleball Club of Winnipeg is thrilled to open the doors and offer the fastest-growing sport to people in the city all year round. "There was a need for a dedicated indoor pickleball space, and there has been a need for a number of years," says Nicholas Rush, the owner and general manager. "The sport is growing, and it's spreading across different demographics now. Younger people, older people, retired, shift workers, everybody's playing pickleball." As of last week, the Pickleball Club of Winnipeg opened to the public during their soft launch. "Our long-term plan is to offer a blend of organized play, which is what people know as drop-ins. This is where there are preset groups based on skill level and age level. People can just come down and be put into a group. Or, if you have your own foursome or your own group, you can book time." Rush says they will offer clinics, including the one next week that will run Monday to Wednesday, from 9-11 a.m., focused on people new ot the game. "We do have memberships that we are promoting, whether they're year-long, eight months, six months, one month, or just drop-ins. We want to be as flexible as possible. We also have family memberships for people living at the same address." Heading into the winter, Winnipeggers will have a dedicated space to play the sport. Rush also shared that by next summer, he hopes to have five outdoor courts for people to play on as well. "My goal and vision are for this to be a place for community and family. We'd like to see situations where parents are dropping their kids off here because they know it's a safe place. Programs going on for kids, including birthday parties. We want to have a spot for everybody and I want people to feel good here, like they know each other." Sylvia St. Cyr will be live on location at the Pickleball Club of Winnipeg on Thursday, Oct. 16, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., and anyone available is invited to come down and check out what they have to offer. They are located at 500 Caron Rd #20 in Headingley. People who come down will have a chance to win one of four 1-month passes.
