Steinbach Bible College's student praise and worship band Free Servant is gearing up for their April tour.

The group is made up of student musicians who serve churches and youth groups. They express their faith through music and creativity through leading in times of worship, music, scripture and testimonies.

Patrick Friesen, Faculty Member and Service Chaplain at Steinbach Bible College said that the team usually has around five to seven students typically.

Free Servant is heading to southern Ontario at the end of April to the Windsor area and then making a stop in London Ontario.

Friesen said that the kids are very excited to be doing this. It's a chance to get out and meet different people and to serve in a variety of different situations whether it be a Sunday morning church service or a variety of different youth groups.

The group will have a one week rest when they come back and then they are off to Caronport Saskatchewan to serve as the main worship band for Abundant Springs - a youth conference with the Evangelical Mennonite Conference of Churches.

On top of their studies, students are committed to a weekly three-hour rehearsal

Next week they'll be heading to Crystal City to work with the youth at Cornerstone Ministries. Following that, they will be in Niverville.

Friesen said they are all pretty excited.

Last year's group of students who were a part of Free Servant wanted to continue serving in this capacity so they formed a worship group called Uncharted.

They've been focused on creating their own original music. This spring Uncharted will be recording their own music.

"It's really neat to be able to see how, with them being a part of Free Servant kind of spun into something further," Friesen said.
