The Uprising Conference came to Riverwood Church this past weekend, encouraging youth across the city to take a stand.

Uprising Conference is a youth conference exclusively designed for youth from grade 6 to 12. It's a two day, high-energy event that ran this past weekend at the Riverwood Church Warehouse location.

"We set out to create a space where students from all over the province could come together and encounter Jesus in a real way and that's exactly what we saw happen," said Riverwood youth pastor Mark Roslund.

On Friday night, youth got an evening of worship and a message from Danny Mackay from I Am Second. On Saturday, they got to hear more from various speakers and be part of a number of different workshops. Youth were also treated to music from The Informants, Bread We Break, and Ben Neufeld.

"God was moving powerfully all weekend," said Roslund.

The theme for the weekend was Take A Stand. Danny Mackay opened the weekend by telling stories of his world travels and that by just going, you can make a difference. He encouraged youth that inviting your friends to church is great, but that you should be standing for your faith and telling your story. 30 youth made a commitment to Christ on the first night.

The conference also raised $500 for World Vision and the HungerFree program.

Uprising Conference is a yearly conference held by Riverwood Church to encourage youth in their walk with God. Roslund said it takes about 50 volunteers to execute everything.
