A Canadian coconut meat product has been recalled due to possible Salmonella contamination.

FeedingChange Canada is recalling their Young Thai Coconut Meat.

The recall, originally issued April 14, 2019, was recently updated to include further product information, including the reason for recall.

Those who have purchased the product in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, or the Yukon are requested to refrain from consumption and instead throw out the product or return it to the store of purchase.

If you believe you have become sick from consuming the recalled item, call your doctor.

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections. Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

Test results from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) activated the recall.
