A Winnipeg school will provide parental notification and awareness after a student reported being sexually assaulted on her way to school.

On January 25, 2023, General Patrol officers from the West District responded to a report of an attempted abduction/sexual incident in the Daniel McIntyre neighbourhood.

A teenage female reported walking to school at approximately 9:00 a.m. when an unknown adult male confronted her at McGee Street and Wellington Avenue. He made a comment to her, then grabbed both of her arms and tried to kiss her.

The victim escaped from his hold, made it to school, and reported the incident. She was not physically injured during this assault. The school will provide parental notifications regarding student awareness and safety planning.

The suspect is described as an adult male with dark hair, sideburns, a jacket and camouflage pants, carrying a lighter-coloured backpack.
