The Winnipeg Police Service is asking parents to be extra vigilant this Halloween season after a concerning drug seizure.

Const. Rob Carver says police seized six fentanyl or carfentanil blotters with a graphic of a Halloween witch riding a broom during a drug search warrant on Oct. 27, 2017 at a residence in the Fort Rouge area.

Interaction with both opioids can have lethal results, even in very minuscule amounts.

Carver says at first glance to both children and adults, the extremely dangerous blotters - which are about the size of a postage stamp - may seem harmless.

"They look like something you would easily see during the Halloween period and they are potentially lethal," Carver said. "It can result in someone dying within minutes which is why all our officers and first responders now carry Naloxone kits."

Carver says in this particular seizure they recovered six blotter tabs with that graphic on them, but he says they likely aren't the only ones in the city.

"The concern of course is for families out trick-or-treating this wouldn't look dangerous," he said. "This is hugely concerning. If a child touches these it could be lethal."

The WPS says if you think you see any blotter tabs you should not engage with them under any circumstances but simply call 911 and let emergency personnel deal with them.

Carver says even just touching them or picking them up could have lethal results.

During the search warrant, police also seized 11 grams of methamphetamine, numerous capsules containing an unknown white powder and bear spray.

Police arrested four people in connection to the seizure and all of them are facing numerous charges. Three of the suspects were released on a promise to appear and the fourth was detained in custody.
