A city-wide worship night asked participants to support those in need, and they made it happen.

ONE Worship night happens on the last Saturday of every month. While it's on a summer break right now, news of their humanitarian efforts is still getting out.

World Vision has been a partner since the first event, and Chris Schroeder, the World Vision representative for Manitoba, said the participants stepped up at the last worship night to make a big difference.

"[The organizers] were looking for a way to respond to the East Africa crisis," Schroeder said. "This past month, they raised the opportunity for individuals to support the East Africa hunger crisis."

Schroeder said the response was overwhelming and the volunteers at the World Vision table weren't able to keep up with everyone.

"That evening alone, they were able to raise over $1200," he said. "We were able to raise that in time to qualify for a government match which doubled that."

In total, $2400 will be going towards the East Africa hunger crisis, which Schroeder says has been named the largest humanitarian crisis since 1945. 25,000,000 are urgently needing humanitarian assistance, with 4,300,000 children suffering from malnutrition and 8,800,000 kids out of school.

Schroeder said that you can donate online towards the crisis, but is also asking Manitobans to pray.

"We're encouraging the churches of Manitoba specifically to pray for the needs of those impacted by this humanitarian crisis," he asked.

The next ONE Worship night will be on September 30.
