Tauren Wells, worship leader at Lakewood Church, says big churches may be doing Christians a disservice.

At a young adult worship night in Houston, Texas Tauren Wells took a moment to encourage the congregation to take more ownership in their worship.

Wells says, "I think that, in some ways, 'big cool church' - which I am a fan of - has, in some ways, done a disservice. And this is churches all over the world that we have, with good intentions, relegated the idea of worship to something that happens on a stage. That worship leaders worship - we all enjoy the overflow. But the truth is the power of worship is not on this stage, it's in these seats."

Wells, known for his songs like Hills and Valleys, Known, and God's Not Done With You tells the crowd of young adults, "To relegate worship to what happens on a stage with bands and instruments is to shrink the magnitude of the weight of worship.

"What God is asking of us is our best response. This can look so many different ways. it's not hype. Worship is not hype. ... Don't give me hype if you can't give me depth. It's in the deep places that God transforms us and shapes our character into his very own and he uses this mould called worship into His very image."

Wells posted his full mini-sermon on his Instagram page:
