Jordan St.Cyr's six-month-old daughter suffered two seizures last week. It's something he says was expected as she'd recently been diagnosed with a rare medical condition.

Now the family is currently in hospital as she battles a possible infection.

Jordan and his wife Heather welcomed Emery in November 15, 2018. St.Cyr says she was recently diagnosed with a condition called Sturge Weber Syndrome. The syndrome is characterized by a large facial birthmark.

"Basically the mark on her face is stealing blood from part of her brain," St.Cyr said. "That part of her brain shows signs of shrinking/atrophy."

"God may not have given Emery this syndrome, but we believe that he is asking our permission to use it and to trust him."

As the syndrome progresses, St.Cyr says, calcium can build up in those areas causing seizures, epilepsy, or mini-strokes. While St.Cyr says he and his wife were prepared for Emery to eventually have a seizure, "nothing could prepare us as to how it would all go down." The six-month-old is currently in hospital for a possible infection.

"We need your prayers," St.Cyr said in a social media post. "For baby, Emery. She needs us most. Strength and peace for Heath and I and our 3 kiddos. We know God’s got this"

While there are many difficulties associated with the condition, St.Cyr says doctors told him and his wife that there were many positives they could focus on. That's something, he says, they were already well aware of and were doing.

"We don't know how fast or how complex this will be. Only time will tell. (Doctors) were very happy with most of her motor skills, though her right side is weaker."

Trusting God

St.Cyr says that he and his wife "are doing ok. We will just continue to love her immensely and take this thing one day at a time."

And, he says, they are listening to God's leading in the midst of uncertainty and difficulty.

"God may not have given Emery this syndrome, but we believe that he is asking our permission to use it and to trust him. So that is what we will do."
