A Winnipeg woman has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for the beating death of a city businessman.

Myra Bird pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the January 2018 killing of 77-year-old Hossein Lotfi.

Court heard that Bird and another woman had been drinking at the man's home when Lotfi made unwanted advances toward her.

Bird, who was also under the influence of methamphetamine, grabbed Lotfi and beat him with a bottle.

She was originally charged with second-degree murder but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge in a deal with the Crown.
