Students from the Winnipeg School Division are showing their artistic talent at the finale of the Quantum Arts Program.

Today and March 21, the students from the Winnipeg School Division (WSD) are showcasing their student talent and artistic growth in film making and film acting, dance and visual art through the finale of the Quantum Arts Program.

"It's an enrichment opportunity for students in our school," said Joe Halas, the Art Education Consultant for WSD "Schools are able to identify students who are able to benefit from working with professional artists."

Over the past eight weeks, 102 Grade 5 to 8 WSD students have been receiving specialized arts training. Students have spent two hours, twice a week, working with professionals at Prairie Theatre Exchange, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Winnipeg Film Group, and the Winnipeg Art Gallery.

"The WSD is a very diverse division that covers lots of areas of the city," Halas said. "[Some people] don't nessesarily have the exposure of the opportunities to participate in all the cultural richness of our city."

Halas said that working with professional artists can provide an experience that would go beyond what you would get during a normal school day.
