A Winnipeg woman working on upgrading her education ended up with a surprise in class and drove away at the end of the day.

Saran Ratna says that he understands how important something like a vehicle is in making the lives of people easier. He's the son of immigrants who came to Canada with nothing and lived in a one bedroom apartment with three kids. "Getting a car, I remember when I was a kid, was such a huge milestone. It really helped us in our day to day life."

That's why, when it was time for his company, Go Get It Real Estate, to purchase a new vehicle, he put a post on social media asking for suggestions of people he could gift his previous car to. "Instead of me trading this vehicle in for two or three thousand dollars, I really wanted to give it to someone and have that same impact for their life."

Ratna says there were a lot of amazing stories, but there was one that especially stood out. It was the story of a woman nominating her classmate, Christine.

Christine is a single mother of three children. One of those kids has a brain injury Ratna said, and her classmate explained that the child often needs to be taken to the hospital. Because Christine didn't have a vehicle, and couldn't use the bus in an emergency, she was often having to pay expensive ambulance bills.

"I feel blessed to be in a position to do that for one," Ratna says. "Canada has given me so much opportunity that I want to help out the community in any way the I possibly can."
