Tax season is here, which also means that tax scamming season is here.

Winnipeg Police are warning residents about potential tax scammers that want your personal information. This scam is done by individuals who could send e-mails and leaving messages on your answering machine who say they are from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

The e-mail scam might include an attachment that asks you to update some of your personal information. Phone messages can include the automated voice telling you that there is a warrant out for your arrest because you owe money to the CRA.

Winnipeg Police advises the public not to engage with these scammers especially if they ask for money. Residents are also recommened to cal the CRA to make sure any infor they have received is relevant or unrelated.
