Winnipeg 1 bus drivers have set a strike date of September 8, 2020, and will not be busing kids to school if a fair offer isn't presented by the school division before that time.

United Food & Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) announced on August 10 that unless the final offer of Bill 28 changes, they will go on strike.

Winnipeg bus driver's current contract with the school division expired on June 30, 2019, already.

After receiving the revised Bill 28 in mid-July, bus drivers met last week in person and unanimously decided to turn down the offer, after reading the details.

Bea Bruske, Secretary-Treasurer of UFCW Local 832, says, "Bus Drivers have the important job of making sure our kids are looked after as they get to and from school, they deserve a fair deal."

The proposed Bill 28 was already turned down from bus drivers back in March 2020.

At the end of August, the bus drivers union has three days booked with their employer to come to an agreement.

Bruske says, “Unless the school division adjusts their bargaining position and comes to the table with a fair offer, then parents will not be able to rely on the bus service when schools reopen.”
