A Winnipeg man is facing impaired driving-related offences following an incident last week in Portage.

On May 27, just before 11:30 p.m., Portage la Prairie Traffic service was conducting enforcement on the bypass around Portage la Prairie and observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed.

Media Liaison Officer Constable Larry Neufeld says the officer conducted a traffic stop for speeding. During interaction with the driver, the officer requested the driver provide a breath sample on a roadside screening device in which he failed.

The driver was taken to the RCMP Detachment to provide breath samples to be analyzed. The result of those samples were more than the legal limit to operate a vehicle.

The 44-year-old man from Winnipeg was charged with impaired operation of a conveyance and operation of a conveyance while over 80mg%. The driver also received tickets for speeding, carrying liquor in a motor vehicle and drive while disqualified totalling $1391.

He was released to appear in court at later date and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
