Winnipeg Harvest has put out an urgent call for nutritional food items.
The long harsh winter we experienced has caused the local food bank to see a decline in the top ten food items, specifically those that are high in protein and non perishable.
Some of the food items they are looking for include:
-
Canned Fish and Poultry (tuna or salmon -packed in water) chicken or turkey
-
Canned Fruit & Vegetables (packed in own juice)
-
Canned Stew, Chili, Brown Beans
-
Peanut Butter
-
Whole Grain Pasta/Whole Wheat Pasta
-
Baby food and Infant formula
-
Rice (brown, converted or parboiled)
-
Canned Spaghetti Sauce or Tomatoes
-
Cereal (high fiber, non-sugar coated)
-
Canned Soup (lentil, pea, vegetable)
They are also accepting monetary donations. For every dollar Winnipeg Harvest receives, $20.00 worth of groceries is distributed.
Winnipeg Harvest feeds about 60,000 Manitobans each month, with nearly half being children.
