Four Winnipeg firefighters will spend the next few days camping out on top of Station 4 in Osborne Village.

It's all part of the 12th annual Firefighter Campout, an event hosted by the United Firefighters of Winnipeg and Muscular Dystrophy Canada to raise funds and awareness for the neuromuscular disease.

For two of the campers this year, this is their first time participating. Meanwhile, the other two firefighters are pros. Jeff Hodgins has been a part of the campout for two years, while Rhema Idonije has participated for six years straight.

From now until Friday morning, the firefighters will use a boot on a rope to collect donations. Another group of firefighters will hit the pavement, collecting donations in front of the Osborne Street Fire Hall during the morning and afternoon rush.

Since this initiative started, Winnipeg Firefighters have raised over $1 million.
