Oasis Community Church is not having a church service this Sunday, and you are probably wondering why.

It is because they are head-on into their move to a new facility located on 940 Elmhurst Road. The church has spent the past eleven and a half years worshipping at Charleswood School as a portable church. Every Sunday at 6:00 am, committed volunteers from the community brought along four 20 foot trailers full of sound and lighting equipment, and necessary needs for their various ministries. They would spend Sunday setting up, stay to worship, and then tearing it down after the service ended.

The last service for Oasis at Charleswood School was held this past Sunday March 19th.

Lead pastor Dustin Funk said that the last service was emotional. "It was a celebration, an only-God thing that was really hard to put into words," Funk said. "We're just thankful for all of our volunteers who got us here."

Oasis could fit close to 550 people inside of the school, but in the new building, now they can seat upwards of about 1,000 people. "It provides an opportunity to invite friends," Funk said. "Our vision was never a building, it was always to reach people far from God to become fully devoted followers of Christ. And a building like this is an incredible tool in the hands of a church to do that more effectively."

Funk is really looking forward to having an expanded place of worship to call their own, including more space for the kids ministries in which Funk said was "busting at the seams."

"We are praying that this space stands 100 years to declare the Good News of Jesus," he said. "We hope that God continues to pour out His spirit over our church."

The first service at the new Oasis Community Church is on Sunday, April 2nd at 9:30 am, and the second service will be at 11:15 am. Everyone is welcome to attend.
