It's Tourism Week in Canada, which is the perfect time to talk about Winnipeg. Why? Because Winnipeg is an incredible tourism city.

Karen Goossen is the Executive Director at Tourism Winnipeg and knows what makes Winnipeg a great place for tourists and citizens alike. So we asked her to tell us the best things about Winnipeg's tourism scene.

"Some of the top things to see and do in Winnipeg include our great culture scene," Goossen said. That includes performances like the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra or the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, which is Canada's oldest ballet company and the longest continuously operating ballet company in North America.

"All summer long there are festivals," Goossen pointed out. Jazz Festival, Fringe Fest and Folklorama all come to mind. There is always live music going on in the city, especially in the heart of downtown Winnipeg.

"The [BellMTS Place] is one of the busiest facilities in North America," Goossen said. Not only is there music there, but both the Manitoba Moose and Winnipeg Jets play their home games there.

Speaking of sports, the Winnipeg Goldeyes and Winnipeg Blue Bombers are always huge attractions, especially with a defending champion and a team looking to win their first in a while.

Outside of arts, culture and sports, there are many attractions around the city that are fun for Winnipeggers and visitors.

The Manitoba Museum and the Assiniboine Park Zoo both have exhibits featuring dinosaurs, along with all their other regular programming.

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights has an exhibit celebrating Canada's 150th birthday. It has also been nominated for a USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice travel awards.

Goossen said there are always great galleries at the Winnipeg Art Gallery and incredible history at the Manitoba Legislative Building.

Finally, the many food, cycling, or walking tours that exist throughout Winnipeg are always worth it and should be tried out by everyone.

As for Goossen, her favorite place in Winnipeg is Assiniboine Park, which is always worth a visit.
