Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) is reaching out to West End community members to "make the right call".

Today officers, cadets and community partners went to door-to-door in the west end of Winnipeg.

WPS says the roving groups were there to share information on, "The role community members can play in crime prevention, how to connect with the Winnipeg Police Service, and the community partners working to help us create stronger and safer communities."

The Safeway parking lot on Sargent Avenue, between Sherbrook Street and Maryland Street, was the headquarters for The Community Caravan.

"We all have a role to play in crime prevention."

WPS says, "Officers who work in the area will be available to answer questions about crime prevention and current police efforts in the area.

"The goal of the day is to gather information on the root causes of the violence that is occurring in the area while ensuring residents are aware of the role they play in helping create stronger and safer communities."

West End Community Outreach Day is meant to give officers and cadets the opportunity to address concerns West End residents have regarding violent crime and substance abuse.

"They will also provide information on how to report the crime-related activity as well as strategies for exiting gang life," says WPS.

Several community support groups were also said to be in attendance and met with West End residents.
