The chief public health officer is giving a COVID-19 update Friday afternoon after hinting that more restrictions could be coming as early as next week.

At yesterday's press conference, Dr. Brent Roussin shared that more restrictions could be in the works for Winnipeg and said some announcements could be coming as early as Friday regarding the matter.

"We can see we've lost our way with the fundamentals at this point. So we're going to need to act to be able to bring down these numbers before continued escalation."

Roussin says he does not plan to bring Winnipeg to Red on the Pandemic Response System but is not opposed to adding more restrictions to the Orange level, including with sports.

Roussin will be speaking at 2:00 p.m. via a Livestream.

An earlier release from the province stated that it would begin at 12:30 p.m. but they have since changed the time. Health, Seniors and Active Living Minister Cameron Friesen was announced as joining the doctor in a second correction but a third correction from the province says he will not be joining them.
