It's a stormy start for parts of Manitoba Saturday morning, but bigger storms are expected later in the day for parts further east, including the City of Winnipeg.

Saturday morning

Environment Canada has issued severe thunderstorm watches and warnings for parts of Westman, including Brandon, Neepawa, Dauphin, Russell, and Minnedosa.  Meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain.

This line is located from Hamiota to the international border and is heading to the east at 75 km/h.

Severe weather Saturday afternoon & evening possible

Hot and humid conditions throughout southern Manitoba on Saturday have the potential to turn explosive later in the day.

Meteorologists and weather forecasters say that storms are likely to start occurring in Brandon again around 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.

These storms will push east and affect areas including Portage la Prairie, the City of Winnipeg, and south of the Trans Canada Highway.

Right now forecasters say that if storms do develop 3 to 5-centimetre hail, wind gusts of 90 to 120 km/h, and local rainfall amounts of 50 to 75 mm. Environment Canada says tornados are also possible in the southwestern portion of the province from the Red River Valley to the Saskatchewan border.
