A Manitoba highway remains closed Wednesday morning after a train derailed on Tuesday afternoon south of La Salle, Man.

The derailment took place on the Canadian Pacific Railway line approximately two kilometres south of La Salle.

A spokesperson for CP says the bridge was not the cause, but rather a casualty of, the derailment. CP continues to investigate the incident.

CP says that the train was carrying vegetable oil, and no dangerous goods were spilled.

Cleanup of the site is still underway. Manitoba Infrastructure says that Provincial Road 330 is still closed between Road 42N and 46N. A detour is in place.

CHVN previously mistakenly reported that a collapsed bridge was the cause of the accident. CHVN regrets the error.
