Many organizations are opting for distanced Remembrance Day services Thursday.
The RBC Convention Centre in Winnipeg will not have a service this year and many other services will be held online.
17 Wing will not host a public ceremony, keeping its in-person activities limited to active service people and some families. HMCS Chippewa will hold a ceremony for active members of their ship's company and some family members. It will be streamed online.
Deer Lodge, a care home for veterans, is hosting a service that includes 17 Wing Chief Operating Officer and Colonel Proteau Kevin Scott. Some of their residents will deliver speeches. They are also hosting a 1 p.m. vehicle parade.
Legion Services
Many legions in Manitoba are hosting in-person services on Thursday morning including at Winnipeg South Osborne and in Portage la Prairie.
Winnipeg legion services include:
- Charleswood at Oak Park High School from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.
- Elmwood online and at 920 Nairn Avenue starting at 10:55 a.m. with a 120 in-person limit with proof of vaccination
- Norwood St. Boniface at 134 Marion Street starting at 11 a.m., with Honours and Awards at 2 p.m. There is a limited capacity with proof of vaccination
- St. James at 1755 Portage Avenue with limited capacity. They are allowing wreaths to be laid at Bruce Park Cenotaph
- West Kildonan at 1748 Main Street for fully-vaccinated members, potentially opening the service to non-members that are fully vaccinated at 10:45 a.m. if capacity allows
- Winnipeg South Osborne at 426 Osborne Street is hosting a 10:30 a.m. service for those with proof of vaccination
Transcona at 117 Regent Avenue is not holding a ceremony. They have been holding a Veterans Week, which includes working with the Transcona Museum on a display at Kildonan Place.

Henderson Highway at 215 Maxwell King Drive in East St. Paul will begin their ceremony at 11 a.m., prioritizing members in their 173 person, fully-vaccinated capacity limit. The Henderson Highway branch has been doing poppy drive-throughs and a Wall of Remembrance, asking people to post messages of Remembrance up until Remembrance Day.
Prince Edward Legion on Trent Avenue hosted a poppy campaign. The Belgian Club is closed for the day.
Portage la Prairie will get a Bell 412 flypast from the Royal Canadian Air Force.
