A puppy named Hunter is recovering after an "unimaginable cruel incident to a tiny puppy."

The Manitoba Animal Alliance says that the eight to nine-week-old puppy was brought to them with a crushed back leg after it was thrown from a moving vehicle.

The MAA says the incident was witnessed and the passing motorists rescued Hunter. They contacted local RCMP, who are now investigating the situation.

The puppy was transferred to the care of the Winnipeg Humane Society. The WHS says Hunter underwent surgery this week to repair the broken back leg, as well as a fractured front leg.

He is recovering under the care of the WHS.
