The fourth session of the 41st sitting of the Manitoba Legislature is underway.

Lt. Gov Janice Filmon delivered the Speech from the Throne this afternoon.

Some of the highlights include: a plan to reduce wait times for procedures such as joint replacement, cataracts and diagnostic imaging, implementing a plan to guide improvements to mental health and addictions services, and the development of a Clinical and Preventive Services Plan. The speech also says the government will bring forward a new Referendum Act to allow Manitobans to vote on major tax increases, and will introduce legislation to pilot a new family resolution service. The government also says it will suspend further expansion of gaming in the province, pending a review of the overall strategy, and introduce new rules for low-level impaired driving.

Liberal leader Dougald Lamont says in a statement the government is recycling promises.

The Manitoba Metis Federation has issued a statement saying the Metis Nation has been left out of today's Throne Speech.
