The Samson's Ball Hockey League (SBHL) is heading to game two after a crazy finish to game one.

The SBHL is a part of Youth for Christ's ministry. The league takes kids from all over the city, but mainly from Elmwood and the North End. Each team has a coach who mentors and plays with them. When they aren't enjoying time together playing hockey, they are building community and relationships with their team and the rivals.

There was plenty of sportsmanship and laughter between the teams before the game and between the periods, but once the puck dropped, it was down to business.

It was a thrilling game. The Rebels jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the Pioneers. By the end of the second, the Pioneers had pushed their way back in off two goals from Morgan Hobbs, getting the score to 4-3. With just seconds left in the third, trailing 5-4, a great defensive play by coach Jamie Wilson turned into a quick goal and the game went into overtime.

The Pioneers luck ran out in extra time, as the Rebels scored, winning the first game of the best of three Stanley Cup Final at the Youth for Christ building on the corner of Higgins and Main.

Game two (and three if needed) start tonight at 7pm.
