The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service rushed three individuals to the hospital in unstable condition after a fire broke out Thursday afternoon.

Crews arrived at a three-storey apartment building in the 100 block of Young Street, at 1:34 p.m. where they found some residents trapped in their suites. 

Smoke was coming out of the building when crews arrived which launched them into an interior fire attack. Working to rescue the residents trapped in their suites using aerial ladder trucks and ground ladders. 

Paramedics assessed five individuals on-scene and transported three individuals to hospital in unstable condition. 

All other occupants self-evacuated and no other injuries were reported. 

The blaze was declared under control at 2:06 p.m. Most of the damage was contained to the suite where the fire started.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
