Biblical scholar, author, and pastor Warren W. Wiersbe died on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at the age of 89.

Wiersbe's grandson, Dan Jacobson, posted the news on his blog this week.

Jacobson said that his grandfather was responsible for helping many understand Scripture. “Grandpa built bridges from the world of the Bible to the world of today so that we could get to the other side of glory in Jesus.”

Wiersbe was a prolific author, writing more than 150 books. He was known as "the pastor's pastor" because of his scholarly work which was known and used by many in their preaching. Over 4 million copies of his books have been sold around the world. His work was also translated into many languages.

Wiersbe entered ministry in 1950 and remained active throughout his life.

That work included many years with Youth for Christ International.

According to the Gospel Coalition, Wiersbe traced his call into ministry back to a Youth for Christ rally in May of 1945 when he heard Billy Graham preach.
