He showed up a little earlier than expected, and just five days after another baby was welcomed into the family of local band The Color.

Guitarist James Shiels and his wife Brandi welcomed their first child, a boy, on Tuesday, January 23.

Bearett William Shiels weighed 5 lbs 2 oz. New dad James says the baby boy was a little small as he showed up six weeks early. "[Brandi] went into labour seven weeks early, but it was quite the lengthy process before we actually had him."

Both Bearett and mom are doing well. James said in a Facebook post that "He’ll stay in the NICU here in Winnipeg for a little while as he gets bigger and stronger, but we can’t wait to take him home!"

Lead singer Jordan Janzen and his wife Gwendolyn welcomed their first child, Lennyn, on January 18. James says it's been quite the week for the band, and everyone is understandably excited.

The Made in Manitoba band is nominated for a combined seven Covenant Awards, which take place this weekend in Alberta. The new dads will be staying home in Manitoba while guitarist Larry Abrams makes the trip to represent the band.
