Mounties say foul play is not suspected in the death of a 23-year-old Stony Mountain Institution inmate.

On Monday, officers along with Emergency Medical Services were called at 1:15 p.m. to Stony Mountain, finding a man unconscious. RCMP say the 23-year-old inmate was in medical distress. He was later pronounced deceased.

In a release from Correctional Service Canada, they identify Tommy Beaulieu as the deceased. They say he was serving a sentence of 10 years, 5 months and 7 days for aggravated assault of a peace officer, breaking and entering to steal a firearm and robbery with violence following an incident where an RCMP officer was shot.

Beaulieu had been imprisoned for less than a year. He began serving his sentence on May 13.

RCMP say they do not suspect foul play.

Stonewall RCMP, Forensic Identification Services, and officials from Stony Mountain Institution are now investigating. Correctional Service Canada says they are reviewing the circumstances of his death.

Beaulieu's next of kin has been notified.
