The band Starfield is one that was a household name in the early 2000s. Now, Tim and Jon Neufeld are finally returning to their home-church stage for the reunion that people have waited almost a decade to see.

"It's just, it's so nostalgic," shared Tim from My Church Winnipeg. Having grown up attending the church, formerly Immanuel Pentecostal Church (IPC), the brothers are incredibly thankful for the chance they've had to come full circle, returning to their roots for their much-anticipated reunion show.

"Literally where I learned all about music and [we] got our first ever gig actually on this stage."

That first gig had the brothers, who would go on to become Starfield, opening for a Jon Buller praise night.

"And here we are again, however many hundreds of years later!" Tim joked.

The decision to reunite was a long time coming, the brothers say. "I always explain it as we took our foot off the gas of Starfield," Jon said. "We did the odd thing over the years but nothing really official... we're brothers, we have kids and we get together every summer, we see each other."

Eventually, the back-and-forth banter of "when are we coming back" materialized, bringing Tim and Jon back for their reunion tour, coming to Winnipeg tonight.

Tour life, Tim says, has been "so cool." The Neufelds have already played shows in Ottawa, Toronto, and the Kitchener/Waterloo area; Winnipeg will be their fourth stop of the tour.

"Ottawa was not a great show because we hadn't played anything together in eight years," Tim laughed, "but people loved it."

"They loved us for getting worse!" chuckled Jon, joking with Tim about forgetting words "on purpose" for tonight's show.

All jokes aside, however, the impact of Starfield, named after the Bruce Cockburn song, "Lord Of The Starfields", is one that has been huge for a number of fans across the country.

"It's been so fulfilling, our hearts are so full, just meeting people after shows and hearing about all the ways that Starfield songs have meant so much to so many people is almost too much to take, honestly," shared Jon.

"It's so humbling and so encouraging, and we just can't even believe it, our minds are blown."

The last time Tim and Jon remember coming to Winnipeg was back in 2008 when they performed at Grant Memorial Church, just a stone's throw away from tonight's performance for the band.

But despite such significant length since Starfield went on hiatus, the Neufelds offer no word on whether the band will have new music for fans after finishing this tour.

"We are excited about being here in Winnipeg tonight at My Church," Tim said. "Let's fill this place up!"
