The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) says that one busy stretch of road in St. Boniface has been reopened after a large fire on Monday.

However, another road in the area will remain closed until at least Tuesday evening.

The fire was in the 500 block of Dawson Road, at Family Friendly Farms Ltd.

Thick black smoke could be seen in the area from across the city.

Officials said that the smoke from the fire was largely caused by vegetable oil that was processed at the business.

Both Marion and Dawson Rd. were closed to traffic yesterday because of the fire. The WPS said through Twitter last night that Marion had been reopened.

Late last night they notified media that Dawson Rd. will remain closed between Marion and Lagimodiere until at least this evening.

Fire crews stayed on the scene of the fire overnight to monitor the situation and ensure it did not flare up again.
