According to Environment Canada, Southern Manitoba including Winnipeg could see temperatures in the mid-30s by Friday.

"We're expecting well above temperatures to take hold starting around Wednesday and getting into the weekend, even as late as Saturday," says Sara Hoffman, a meteorologist with Environment Canada.

This is roughly 10 degrees hotter than usual for early June. An upper ridge in the U.S.A is drawing the warm, moist air north into Manitoba, according to Hoffman.

"We're not expecting any thunderstorms or rain. But when the upper ridge moves out of the area this weekend, we are expecting the possibility of some thunderstorms or rain showers, like late Saturday into Sunday."

As far as heat warnings are concerned, there are very specific criteria for Environment Canada to call for one. At this point, it's too early to tell if there will be one by the weekend.

As of May 31, it looks like Winnipeg will be seeing a high of 31 degrees on Wednesday, 35 on Thursday, and 36 degrees Celcius on Friday.
