Manitoba's five-day test positivity rate is increasing, jumping from 3.9 per cent to 4.6 per cent in one week.

Out of the 483 new COVID-19 cases from Friday to Monday, 266 cases are from Southern Health. There is now a total of 63,688 confirmed cases with 1,273 of those being active cases.

New cases by health region include:

  • 266 cases in the Southern Health-Santé Sud health region
  • 95 cases in the Winnipeg health region
  • 41 cases in the Northern health region
  • 41 cases in the Prairie Mountain health region
  • 40 cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region

Out of the active COVID-19 cases, 805 people are not vaccinated, 91 people are partially vaccinated, and 377 people are fully vaccinated. 

Southern Health covers roughly 207,855 of Manitoba's population of roughly 1,369,000 people. Many of the active cases in this region come from Winkler (54 active cases), Portage la Prairie (55 active cases) and Hanover (35 active cases). All areas, excluding Morris and Prairie Grey, have active cases, averaging around one dozen active cases in each district.

Heather Sefanson answered questions on Saturday night in regards to rising COVID-19 cases in Southern Health after winning the leadership of the PC Party in Manitoba and subsequently will be named Manitoba's premier.

"As I always have, I will take the advice of the chief provincial health officer. I will talk to my cabinet colleagues and my caucus. We will assure that we will get that information and make the best decision that we can, based on the information that we have at the time," she said

Over the weekend four people died with COVID-19. This includes:

  • a female in her 70s from Northern health region (reported Monday)
  • a male in his 70s from the Prairie Mountain Health region (reported Saturday) linked to the outbreak declared at Benito Personal Care Home and an unspecified variant of concern
  • a male in his 60s from the Southern Health-Sante Sud health region (reported Friday) linked to an unspecified variant of concern
  • a female in her 60s from the Southern Health-Sante Sud health region (reported Friday)

Winnipeg's five-day test rate is 1.6 per cent.

The 483 new cases include:

  • 96 new cases on Monday
  • 149 cases on Sunday
  • 97 cases on Saturday
  • 141 cases on Friday

Monday's 96 new cases include 70 people who are not fully vaccinated.

 

Hospitalizations

There are 98 people in the hospital due to COVID-19, including 71 people who have active cases. The province says out of the active cases, 50 people are not vaccinated, 17 are fully vaccinated, and four people are partially vaccinated. 

There are 25 people in intensive care, with 20 of those people having active cases. Three of the active patients are fully vaccinated and the remaining are not vaccinated.

 

École Régionale Notre-Dame's Grade 11/12 is in an outbreak, with its unvaccinated class members self isolating. The school has been moved to Restricted (Orange) level on the #RestartMB Pandemic Response System.

 

An earlier statement from the province said Monday's 96 new cases include 62 people who are not fully vaccinated. This has since been corrected.
