A Winnipeg community centre is extending the holiday season by hosting a drive-in showing of a family Christmas movie next week.

Despite snow and winds, a Gateway Recreation Centre is bringing the Christmas spirit to its community.

"Enjoy a socially distanced night out in the community. Stay warm comfort of your vehicle while watching the 2003 Comedy film Elf," the group says in a statement.

Originally slated to screen on Tuesday night, the pending snow and winds put a damper on the group's plans. Instead of cancelling the Christmas movie, the screening is moving to after the holiday on December 29.

The group says they will need to be cautious of the drive-in regulations, stating that they will not be selling snacks and its washrooms will be closed.
