The city of Winnipeg says snow-clearing crews will be out on main routes in the coming days.

Crews hit the streets last night and continue to plow and salt major routes and back lanes in the city today.

Once those routes are done, work will begin on collector streets, bus routes, sidewalks and active transportation pathways.

The city is again reminding people that the Annual Snow Route Parking ban is in effect from 2:00 am to 7:00 am every night until March 1, 2018, regardless of weather conditions.

If you do park on a snow route during those hours, you could be tagged with a $100 ticket, which could go down to $50 if paid early.

Your car can also be towed and taken to the towing company’s lot.

The city is also reminding people they can receive a ticket via mail in addition to parking authority agents placing them on windshields. That means if you don’t have a ticket on your windshield, it doesn’t necessarily mean you didn’t get one.

The city has not said when the residential parking bans will take effect.

To find out if/when your street is subject to a parking ban, visit winnipeg.ca/snow or download the “Know Your Zone” app.

The city is also advising motorists to reduce their speed, drive to conditions and stay well back from heavy snow-removal equipment.
