Rain yesterday combined with falling temperatures today are leading to slippery roads inside and outside of the city.

With last night's rain and the temperature slowly dropping into the minuses, roads in and out of the city have started to freeze and become quite dangerous.

"We're seeing across much of southern Manitoba ice covered or partly ice covered highways," said Derek Trainor, spokesperson for Manitoba Highways. "Crews are out putting down sand in areas where it's needed."

Highway crews have been out since early this morning. While Trainor wasn't able to say what highway conditions would be like throughout the day, he did mention that Highway 5 at McCreary has been closed due to ice and visibility concerns.
