Monday afternoon may be Winnipeg's hottest day of the year, which means those without a shelter need a little extra help to stay hydrated.

"With all this hot weather, we have been going through a lot more bottled water," says Luke Thiessen, the Communications Manager at Siloam Mission. "We're down to about a pallet of water left and that can go within about two days."

The city of Winnipeg is expected to reach a high of 37 degrees on Monday, feeling more like 42 degrees with the humidity. There is a heat warning in effect.

The Mission located on 300 Princess St. in Winnipeg is asking people to drop off cases of bottled water for those who don't have a shelter to cool off on days with heat warnings.

"We serve at least a few hundred a day with people coming and going throughout the day," says Thiessen, which includes meals, as well as a bottle of water to those in need.

Another place in Winnipeg that could use the public's help with the heat is Lighthouse Mission, located right off Main St.

"We could always use water, bottled water is especially important so our community members can carry it around and access it when they need," says Manager Peter McMullen.

According to their website, Lighthouse Mission delivers food, friendship, hope, joy and love to those in need.

"Fresh fruit is always good, in particular oranges, as it allows people to refresh their electrolytes. The best place to drop off any deliveries is to drop them off in the back."
